Mihi Bottom ~ Blue Mnt Tracks back

At the junction of Salisbury Waters and Mihi Creek, waypoint SALIS+MIHI, at normal water level.

Just above the junction, at AG66 822.041, there’s the widest flat on the Mihi, where there were signs of an old hut in 1990. All gone now.

A relaxed lunch, where the creek is narrowing in, and Rusty Figs cling to the rocky walls. You can see the open flat just behind us.

The Exit ridge from about AG66 810.036

Beautifully sculpted boulders are a feature of the Mihi as it begins to narrow down.

Just below the exit ridge, the entire bottom of the gorge is filled with rocks, and the creekbanks do not exist.

Loooking back down from the start of the exit ridge at 803/036. The ridge lies between the Mihi and the second of the two creeks entering it on the east- still unnamed.

A good even ridge in the lower sections….

.. though still needing lots of drink breaks.

Starting to narrow down, with the cliffline just visible above the climber.

The big landslide in the photo is on the opposite wall of Mihi Creek, at AG66 790.036.

The rest of the ascent is on the eastern side of the ridge. You edge around close to the cliffline, with occasional shortcuts directly up. Be prepared to retrace your steps if you are cliffed out.

Good view down the Mihi and Salisbury Waters to the Long Point ridge the other side of Bakers Creek.

This narrow saddle only persists for a little way before….

…. Some more edging around the east side, that looks worse than it is before….

…. big grins appear just below the ridge top.

This shot of the landslide is from c. AG66 790.033,having finished the tricky bits of the climb out.

This shot from the above point shows the much more difficult Western side of the ascent ridge.

Having carefully crossed the main stream, this photo from AG66 785.035 looks over the lip of the old course of the creek before it found a new way further E.

Back on the NPWS track, c. AG66 788.038, about 3 km to Dangars Falls Carpark.
